Building in Vancouver will offer you many choices to consider. One big choice you’ll have to contemplate is whether you want to build a new home on a brand new lot or to rebuild your home on the lot you’re currently living on. Basically, do you want to stay where you are or do you want to move somewhere else? Here are a few tips to help you make the right choice:

  1. Think about lot suitability
Many people make the mistake of trying to fit a round home, so to speak, in a square lot. How many times have to driven by a home that is obviously too big for the lot it’s on? If you want to move up to a much larger home, then build on a bigger lot.
  2. How much do you love the neighbourhood?
Maybe your current home has the all the extras that you’re looking for – nearby schools and parks, peace and quiet, or a busy strip of pubs and restaurants. If that’s the case, you might not want to build somewhere else and leave all of that behind.Housing Advice in Vancouver & Langley - Building or Rebuilding
  3. Do you have a place to stay?
Rebuilding isn’t remodeling. The construction workers aren’t just fixing up a few things and you can live around them. Rebuilding is building a brand new home and tearing down where you live right now. So you’ll need to find somewhere to stay, somewhere to store your things, as construction is occurring.
  4. How much do you want to spend?
Very simply, if you rebuild, you don’t have to buy a new lot. That saves money. Also, many companies will try to reuse some of the raw materials from your old home in the rebuild, which also saves money.
